War in Ukraine: Support for children and families

The war has been devastating for families. UNICEF and partners are on the ground providing support for those in need.

The children and families of Ukraine have endured a year of escalating violence, trauma, destruction and displacement. Children continue to be killed, wounded and deeply traumatized by violence that has sparked displacement on a scale and speed not seen since World War II. Schools, hospitals and other civilian infrastructure on which they depend continue to be damaged or destroyed. Families have been separated and lives torn apart.

Ukraine’s children and their families have endured two years of forced displacement, unthinkable loss, and relentless violence since the escalation of war in February 2022. As of August 24, at least 545 children have been killed – the equivalent of a child dying every day since the war escalated, mostly from bombardment. At least 1,156 children have been injured.

UNICEF continues to respond to children’s urgent humanitarian needs and ensure children have access to health care, immunization, nutrition, education, water and sanitation, and mental health and psychosocial support. In refugee hosting countries, UNICEF continues to work with governments, municipalities, and local partners to strengthen national systems that provide refugee children and marginalized children from host communities with quality education, health care and protection.

UNICEF was in Ukraine before the war escalated, and in the months since has stayed and delivered. We stand with the children of Ukraine and will continue working with partners to support them through the war and beyond.

Support children in emergency with a monthly donation.

Your monthly donation will contribute to significant outcomes for children and enable UNICEF to provide immediate assistance during times of humanitarian crisis.

Every child has the right to grow up in a safe and inclusive environment, learn, and thrive in a safe and loving family environment. UNICEF works to strengthen systems to protect children and their families from a wide range of risks that threaten their physical and mental well-being.

A monthly gift is a recurring gift amount that you choose to send each month, and it is even more impactful because you're helping children every single day.

Your monthly gift will also enable us plan effectively in our upcoming work, reduce costs and most importantly, reach even more children in need. We couldn't continue our efforts without the support and generosity of monthly donors, and we hope you'll consider joining the UNICEF pledge giving family.

In emergencies, UNICEF is on the ground before, during, and after, to help more children and families with immediate and long-term needs.
Your contribution is vital to achieving results for children and protecting their childhood.
