30% of children live in households where no adults are employed
This statistic has far-reaching effects in the lives of children, especially with regards to health and nutrition.
The devastating effects of COVID-19 have further exacerbated the impact on households across SA, disrupting nutrition interventions and impacting school feeding schemes.
Across the world, health systems have not been adequately prepared for COVID-19 and SA is no exception, leaving millions of children vulnerable, exposed and unable to receive the healthcare and nutrition they need to survive and thrive.
UNICEF is working to reduce these statistics by implementing the multisectoral National Food and Nutrition Security Plan - ensuring that the most vulnerable children are prioritised in receiving food parcels and that certain nutritional standards are adhered to.
The Challenge Is On!
