After two years of devastating conflict, a new ceasefire between Israel and Hamas finally took effect in October 2025.
For families in Gaza, it brings a moment of fragile hope but also a stark reality: famine has already been declared, and children’s needs remain urgent.
Entire neighborhoods have been destroyed. Hospitals are barely functioning. Safe water, food, and shelter are desperately scarce.
Since the start of the war, 440 people, including 147 children, have died of hunger. One in five children is now suffering from severe acute malnutrition, the deadliest form of undernutrition. Many babies are born prematurely or underweight as mothers struggle to feed themselves.
“Famine is now a grim reality for children in Gaza Governorate, and a looming threat in Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis,”
said UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell.
UNICEF teams are on the ground providing emergency assistance throughout the Gaza Strip.
More than 40 UNICEF trucks have already entered the enclave, carrying life-saving supplies: tents, food, medicine, vaccines, and water-sanitation equipment. Over more than 1,300 trucks are ready to deliver essential aid.
In the next three months, UNICEF is focusing on six priority areas:
Nutrition: Providing therapeutic food and treatment for malnourished children
Water and sanitation: Restoring clean water systems for 1.5 million people, including 600,000 children
Health: Supplying vaccines against preventable diseases like measles and polio
Child protection: Offering psychological support and family reunification services
Education: Setting up temporary learning spaces for 16,000 children
Cash assistance: Supporting 150,000 people to meet their basic needs
Your donation can change lives.
Just 85 lei per month can provide a week's worth of basic food for a child in Gaza and give them a real chance of survival and recovery. Monthly donations support the continuous delivery of aid and ensure children have access to food, clean water, medical care, and safe spaces.
Donate now! Help children and families in Gaza rebuild their lives.
If the resources mobilized exceed the immediate needs of the humanitarian response in Gaza, the funds raised will be redirected without prior notice to other local or international UNICEF initiatives for vulnerable and marginalized children.
