Help Amir and other children so they can have a better life

In a village in Vaslui County, on the porch of a modest house, a seven-year-old boy is teaching his mother to read.

Amir, a first grader, patiently shows his mother the words as she slowly spells ‘i-nel’. ‘Well done, mother’ , Amir says with the broad smile of a child trying to keep hope alive in a house burdened by hardship.

Amir's father is ill and unable to move around. The family lives on a single pension, and deprivation is the only constant in the lives of Amir and his two brothers. There are days when parents don't know what they will put on the table, so Amir and his brothers risk dropping out of school and losing their only chance for a better future. Amir's mother got the help she needed, as she says:

‘The social worker helped my husband have an income’

The social worker was close by and helped them access vital services. Amir is now in an educational programme where he receives much-needed psychological, educational and material support. But without your help, these things cannot continue.

The social workers are the first outstretched hand when families see no way out. They are the ones who knock on the door when no one else will and bring with them concrete solutions and hope.

With patience and empathy, they guide parents and children to the services they need - counselling and emotional support, therapies that are essential for the development of their young ones.

For many children in vulnerable situations, the presence of a social worker can mean the difference between abandonment and opportunity. Between being forgotten and being seen. Their support gives children the confidence that they can succeed in life.

Donate now and support vulnerable children in Romania. Together we can give them a chance to a better life. Thank you.
