Every child has the right to a quality education. However, only 30% of 10-year-olds in low and middle-income countries can read and understand a simple story. Children who cannot access quality learning opportunities are at greater risk of remaining trapped in cycles of poverty. They are less likely to be healthy, to gain skills for life and work, or to participate in decisions that affect them.
