The malnutrition crisis
Sudanul se confruntă în prezent cu una dintre cele mai grave crize umanitare din lume.
Conflictul a forțat familiile să-și părăsească locuințele, a distrus infrastructura și a adus comunitățile în pragul catastrofei. În unele zone, s-a confirmat deja existența foametei.
În astfel de situații de criză, copiii sunt printre cei mai afectați.
Organismul copiilor care suferă de malnutriție severă devine extrem de slăbit. Aceștia sunt mai vulnerabili la infecții și au nevoie de mai mult timp pentru a-și reveni, chiar și după boli obișnuite. Părinții își văd copiii cum slăbesc și își pierd forțele, știind că, fără tratament, s-ar putea să nu supraviețuiască.
„Copiii nu dorm noaptea pentru că le este foame”, spune Zahra, o mamă din Sudan.
Fiica ei cea mare, Farisha, este extrem de slăbită; chiar și mișcările simple le face cu dificultate.
Într-un centru de nutriție susținut de UNICEF, Zahra și copiii ei au primit sprijin nutrițional esențial și provizii, inclusiv alimente terapeutice gata de consum pentru copii.
„Măcar acum copiii mei au o șansă”, spune ea.

Why UNICEF?
UNICEF achiziționează aproximativ 80% din alimentele terapeutice gata de consum destinate tratării copiilor care suferă de malnutriție gravă.
Asta înseamnă că, atunci când faci o donație, susții un sistem care ajunge deja la milioane de copii:
- În 2024, UNICEF alături de parteneri au supus la screening peste 250 de milioane de copii sub cinci ani, pentru a depista cazurile de slăbire accentuată.
- Peste 9,3 milioane de copii au beneficiat de tratament pentru slăbire accentuată severă și alte forme de malnutriție acută severă.
Cu toate acestea, finanțarea actuală ajunge doar pentru o mică parte dintre copiii care au nevoie de tratament de urgență pentru malnutriție.
