While children in Sudan continue to face devastating conflict, the crisis is also deeply impacting neighbouring South Sudan, as families flee in search of safety. South Sudan was already facing one of the world’s most complex humanitarian emergencies — with over 10 million people, including 5.3 million children, in need of assistance.
Since April 2024, more than 1.3 million refugees and returnees — including over 650,000 children — have arrived, placing immense pressure on already fragile communities and essential services.
Your support helps UNICEF reach children affected by both the Sudan and South Sudan crises, delivering life-saving nutrition, healthcare, safe water, and protection. Urgent support is needed now to save lives.
“If you have ever wondered: can I really help? The answer is yes. You can. Every single donation makes a difference. I’ve seen it. I’ve felt it and I believe in it now more than ever.” – Liam Neeson, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador
Sudan is facing a devastating hunger and displacement crisis
Famine conditions have been confirmed in Al Fasher and Kadugli, while violence in North Darfur has forced over 81,000 people to flee since late October.
Reception sites are overwhelmed, and children remain at extreme risk. More than 850 children with acute malnutrition are receiving treatment , but needs are growing fast.
In the Kordofan States, conflict has sharply escalated, displacing nearly 37,000 people in just 10 days. Over 1,350 individuals have accessed psychosocial support and gender-based violence (GBV) services, including trauma care and emergency assistance.
“A shell hit us on the road.” – Ibrahim, 11
Ibrahim, 11, fled violence in Al Fasher, Sudan. During their escape, a shell landed near him, killing his brother and severely injuring his leg.
“We left him behind,” he says quietly. “We had to run for our lives.” After weeks of fear and travel, he finally reached a UNICEF-supported shelter in Tawila, where he received medical care and a bag of notebooks and crayons – something deeply important for a child who has lived through so much.
Ibrahim and thousands of other children urgently need food, clean water, and a safe place to stay.
Children like Ibrahim need support not just today — but every month as recovery continues.
Your donation today helps:
Be the reason a packet of hope is there on time
It doesn’t look like much at first glance. A small packet. But this is a peanut-based therapeutic paste that children can eat straight from the sachet.
For a child whose body has been weakened by severe malnutrition, that packet is life-saving. It’s energy, nutrients, and a second chance wrapped together – a packet of hope.
Ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) is a specially formulated, peanut-based paste packed with calories, protein, vitamins, and minerals. It’s designed to treat severe wasting in children under 5 – one of the deadliest forms of malnutrition in the world.
Taken regularly over six to eight weeks, RUTF can help a child gain weight, regain their strength, and start to recover from life-threatening malnutrition.
Your donation helps UNICEF procure and deliver more of these life-saving packets to the children who need them most.
How does your gift saves lives?
Almost every day, children are caught in one crisis after another. For children in South Sudan, Chad, the Sahel, the DRC, Gaza, and beyond, this can mean losing access to food, safe water, health care, and school – sometimes overnight.
UNICEF teams are responding to hundreds of emergencies every year, working to reach the children who are most at risk – restoring water systems, supporting clinics, delivering therapeutic food and setting up safe spaces to learn and play.
Your generosity can change the lives of millions of children. By giving today, you become a lifeline – ensuring no child faces life threatening crises alone.
