Navruz is a time of renewal, unity, and hope—a time to embrace traditions that bring people closer. Yet, for thousands of children in Uzbekistan, this Navruz will be spent without the warmth of a family.

It's no secret that in any orphanage, no matter how good it is, even if it is the most hospitable, the best in the world, every child dreams of having a family. Currently, over 58,000 children in our country live away from their homes.

Help UNICEF ensure more children in Uzbekistan grow up in loving and caring families.

This Navruz, as we celebrate new beginnings, let's ensure more children grow up in the love and care of a family.

Ibrohim and his two siblings are orphans. For one and a half years they stayed at Children’s Home in Tashkent after they lost both their parents. They had to stay at an orphanage until they were taken by their aunt, Motabar.

“Every child needs a family, they need care and love,” said Motabar simply.

She is right. Evidence shows that children who are brought up in families and communities do much better than their peers who grow up in institutions of residential care. Yet, in Uzbekistan, the rate of children that end up in residential care is far too high.

The number is even higher for children with disabilities. Abandoned and alone, these children spend their childhoods away from the love and care they deserve, at the risk of physical, psychological, emotional, and social harm with consequences that can last a lifetime.

UNICEF is working closely with the government of Uzbekistan and a network of partners on the ground to change that. And we won’t stop until all children are protected and given the chance to grow up in a loving and caring family.

With your urgent support, UNICEF can help give every abandoned child in Uzbekistan an opportunity to grow and thrive in a family.

With your Navruz gift, you can help make this a season of hope and transformation for children who need it most.

How will your donation help?

For more than three decades, UNICEF in Uzbekistan has been working tirelessly to improve the lives of children and their families in the country focusing on the most disadvantaged. With your support, we can,

  • Protect children at risk of being placed into alternative care and their families with intensive support.
  • Help children already living in residential care to find loving and caring families.
  • Strengthen the family-based alternative care systems for children who cannot go back to their families.
  • Challenge the norms that placing children into institutional care is okay.

No child should grow up alone. Your support this Navruz can help give more children in Uzbekistan the love, care, and stability of a family.
