How are the earthquakes in Venezuela impacting children and families?

Powerful earthquakes have struck Venezuela, causing widespread damage and disrupting the lives of thousands of children and families.

A magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck northern Venezuela on June 24th, followed less than a minute later by a second, even stronger earthquake measuring 7.5 in magnitude.

At least 1,430 people have been reported dead and over 3,000 have been injured and there are concerns the death tool could rise significantly as rescue and assessment efforts continue. UNICEF estimates that 1.8 million people, including 680,000 children, are in need of humanitarian assistance.

Children in situations like this are among those most vulnerable, facing the loss of homes, access to essential services, and the safety and stability they need to thrive.

Urgent support is needed to reach children and families with life-saving supplies and support.

Donate now to help UNICEF respond to the earthquake in Venezuela and other urgent emergencies around the world.

HELP UNICEF RESPOND

__________

How is UNICEF responding to support children and families affected by the earthquake?

UNICEF is on the ground working with partners to assess needs and support the response, with a focus on helping children and families access essential services.

The first UNICEF air shipment of life-saving supplies, including medical supplies, water and sanitation items, and tents, has already arrived in Venezuela to provide urgent support to those affected.

Your support can help UNICEF deliver life-saving assistance, including:

  • Safe drinking water and emergency hygiene supplies
  • Essential health services and medical supplies
  • Child protection and psychosocial support
  • Education support to help children return to learning as quickly as possible
  • Emergency supplies for the most vulnerable families

Why your donation matters?

Children are often the hardest hit during emergencies. With support from donors, UNICEF can help protect children's health, safety and future as families begin to recover.
