(As of 23rd June 2022): Assam floods have left over 4.5 million people including 1 million children from 4536 villages in 30 districts at risk of disease, poor nutrition, and displacement. The consequences for the most marginalized communities, especially children, adolescents, and women are worrying.

Support provided by UNICEF and partners: 

  • Deployed teams to the worst affected districts for immediate assessment and support to the Government.
  • Working with partners to install temporary toilets and water filtration systems.
     
  • Coordinating essential services such as health, nutrition, water, sanitation, education, and protection for children, adolescents and their families.
     
  • Creation of Child Friendly Spaces in relief centres.
     
  • Supporting with a data collection system to help inform decisions related to response.
