At just six months old, Kiara’s tiny body is weakened by hunger. In her village in Yemen, food is scarce, and she survives on just two small meals a day.
When she developed a high fever and severe diarrhoea, her mother, Aisha, feared the worst. She rushed Kiara to a UNICEF-supported health centre, where doctors diagnosed her with severe acute malnutrition (SAM). Kiara was given life-saving therapeutic food and a measles vaccine.
“Her hand was the size of my finger, and she could not even sit, but now she can sit and move around,” Aisha says.
Kiara is getting stronger, but she still needs urgent care and proper nutrition to survive.

Farha, a widowed mother of five in rural Damascus, struggled to provide for her children after her husband's passing. “Our life turned upside down,” she recalled. Hunger often forced them to go to bed empty-handed.
Everything changed when a UNICEF-supported cash assistance program identified Farha’s family as beneficiaries. “I bought food first—rice, sugar, lentils—and a wooden stove,” she shared.
With warmth and meals finally secured, she now dreams of buying her children new clothes. “For the first time since my husband’s death, I feel someone is helping me carry the heavy burden.”
Jana’s world changed the day airstrikes hit her home in Gaza. Forced to flee, she held her mother’s hand tightly, afraid they would never return.
Months later, she came back to Rafah, only to find everything in ruins. Her bed was gone, her mother’s clothes buried under rubble, and her school bag torn.
"I used to take it to school, but it got torn," she says, a painful reminder of all she has lost. For children like Jana, the future remains uncertain. But with urgent support, they can begin to heal.
