Children in Mozambique need your support

Tropical Storm Ana has disrupted the lives of many children in Mozambique, destroying homes and infrastructures and leaving more than 46,000 students without a place to learn.

More than 23,400 homes have been partially, totally destroyed or flooded and 13 health facilities and 543 classrooms (249 schools) have been damaged or destroyed.

Thousands of women and children need humanitarian assistance in the aftermath of the storm that hit Nampula, Zambezia, Tete, Niassa, Sofala and Manica provinces.

The rainy season in Mozambique can deteriorate the situation if another tropical depression or cyclone brings significant additional rains to already full rivers and dams.

Your support is key to react quickly and send help to children affected by this storm.

Your gift will help to provide essential supplies such as buckets, soap, water purification tablets and ready-to-use therapeutic food for malnourished children.

A mother and her child

"On January 24th it started to get very windy, I started to get worried because I was inside the house with my children, so we went outside to stay under the cashew trees. I ended up losing a lot of things, chairs, plates, and other items from my home. When I left I found shelter in a nearby school with my children. Now for now I am living here with my two children. I need help, I have nothing, no blanket and no food to give to my children"

- Elisa Victorino, 25 years old and mother of two, lives in the community of Namuto.

“We are working together with the Mozambican government and our partners to provide life-saving assistance to children and their families in the affected areas. This latest storm to hit Mozambique is a blunt reminder that the climate crisis is very much a reality and children are most impacted by climate-related severe weather events.”

- Maria Luisa Fornara, UNICEF Representative in Mozambique.
