Situation in Myanmar

A devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar on 28 March — the deadliest in decades. Homes, schools, hospitals, and critical infrastructure have been destroyed across the country.

More than 1,600 lives have been lost. Thousands more are injured.

Children are among the most affected — facing injury, trauma, and separation from loved ones.

“Entire communities have been flattened. Children and families are sleeping in the open, with no homes to return to. I met children who were in shock after witnessing their homes collapse or the death of family members. Some have been separated from their parents. Others are still unaccounted for.” — Julia Rees, Deputy Representative, UNICEF Myanmar

The crisis is still unfolding, with aftershocks continuing and families left without access to safe water, healthcare, or shelter. The needs are rising by the hour — and we must act fast.

In crises like this, every minute counts.
