Help children affected by the floods to return to school

Floods have wreaked havoc in over 6,000 households in the counties of Galati and Vaslui, leaving thousands of children without access to essential supplies and education. In the face of this disaster, these children and their families need help to rebuild their lives and overcome the trauma of these very difficult times.

In the village of Costache Negri, Galati county, children had eagerly prepared for the start of the new school year. Parents had saved up for school supplies, shoes and clothes, and teachers had carefully decorated their modest classrooms, waiting for the children to return to school.

Today, in a classroom where the floodwaters and mud have spared nothing, only the message 'Welcome to school' remains untouched in a corner.

The rest of the classroom has been ruined by the floods and turned into improvised storage space for packs of water and relief supplies thrown together for displaced families.

UNICEF is working on the ground to ensure that these children receive the necessary support to access essential goods, safe education, school supplies, and assistance for their families.Every child has the right to continue their education and receive the necessary emotional and social support.
