Children like Thulakshan need our help
Thulakshan, aged 5, lives with his mother and 3-year-old sister Tulakshika in the Sri Lankan district of Batticaloa. Tulakshika is underweight. With the economic crisis biting hard, Thulakshan’s mother doesn’t know how long she can continue to feed her two children.
“My main concern is about the health and nutrient level of my children,” their mother says. “Our income is getting worse day by day and grocery prices are also increasing. It’s so hard for us to live like this.”
Up to 70 percent of families in Sri Lanka face dangerous food shortages. Will you please help spare children from the pain of hunger?
Your donation will help families feed their children
The future of Sri Lanka’s children is at risk
UNICEF is working on the ground, quickly setting up nutrition assessment centres that provide healthcare and food to remote areas. With so many children in need, we must ensure our teams have enough supplies and can reach remote villages where families are more vulnerable. Please help by donating here now.
It’s estimated that 2.3 million children in Sri Lanka need urgent aid right now. Without action, millions could face acute malnutrition. This puts their lives and future welfare at risk.
How your donation will help
Our teams are working hard on the ground, but the crisis is escalating quickly. With more children facing malnutrition by the day, action is needed now.
We need your help to:
- Deliver more therapeutic food to treat malnutrition in children across Sri Lanka and in remote areas
- Provide food vouchers for pregnant and lactating mothers, supply maternity and neonatal kits, including nutritional support for pregnant women
- Help keep schools open to ensure every child has access to education in this crisis and keep children benefitting from school feeding programs
- Provide people with safe water for drinking and domestic needs
Please help us reach children and families in Sri Lanka with life-saving support.
