Support the children who have been affected by the wildfires

A catastrophic experience, such as that of fire, exceeds the reserves of people, causes multiple losses, raising great fear, terror and a sense of utter weakness and despair when it occurs. It is usually experienced as "psycho-traumatic", as it is perceived as highly threatening and exceeds the available mental reserves of individuals and communities.

In collaboration with the counseling center for child and family care Merimna and other partners, UNICEF mobilizes through targeted action programs in primary and secondary schools for the education of students and supports teachers in the fire-affected areas of Attica, Evia and Ilia throughout the school year.
We call on you to strengthen our actions and contribute to healing the wounds of children who experienced the traumatic events of the fires this summer in our country.

Your generous support is important for the new generation of Greece.

Action plan to support students and teachers in the fire-affected areas of Greece.

The program will be implemented in collaboration with MERIMNA, child and family care counseling center, starting  over 30 schools in the fire-affected areas of Attica, Evia and Ilia and will include the following activities:

Meet the UNICEF Greece Country Office

The UNICEF Greece Country Office, officially established in 2020, in agreement with the Greek State and headed by a Representative formally and diplomatically accredited to Greece, is now engaging with various state Ministries and institutions, academia, foundations, private sector and civil society partners for the advancement of children's rights in Greece. Its staff includes child rights experts and support staff who are working to ensure the Greek state is able to meet its legal obligations to children enshrined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child, ratified by Greece in 1993.

UNICEF Greece is grateful to the Greek public for their continuous support of children in difficult circumstances over many decades, and looks forward to a new era of working together to accelerate progress for all children in Greece and around the world for many years to come.
