Ukraine’s third year of full-scale war was even deadlier for children than the preceding year.

When a children's hospital is hit, a school shelled, or an electric grid destroyed, children suffer—even when they survive.

UNICEF remains on the ground, delivering urgent relief while also supporting long-term recovery. But with the war still ongoing, the needs continue to grow, and we need your help.

Born into war: Yehor’s story

Three-year-old Yehor knows no life outside of war. Born in Mariupol just weeks before the full-scale invasion, he was displaced before he was even two months old. His mother, Yevheniia, remembers their desperate escape.

Ukraine war

Over the three months after Yehor and her family left, the city was destroyed, and several thousand civilians were killed.

A child’s early years shape their entire future—how they learn, connect, and thrive. But for millions of children in Ukraine, these years have been filled with fear, displacement, and loss.

UNICEF is working to ensure children like Yehor get the care and support they need. Health professionals visit families, providing immunizations, nutrition, and early childhood support. Safe spaces for learning help children continue their education, while therapy and counseling support those affected by war. But with conflict ongoing, the needs keep growing.

How UNICEF is staying for children in Ukraine

Despite the extreme challenges—constant airstrikes, displacement, destroyed homes, and limited access to food, water, and medical care, children and families in Ukraine have demonstrated incredible resilience. Together, we must ensure they receive the critical aid they need to survive and recover.

With your support, UNICEF is on the ground delivering life-saving aid to children like Yehor—helping them survive today and have a chance for a better tomorrow, including:

  • Life-saving medical aid and early childhood health support
  • Safe spaces for learning so children can continue their education
  • Psychosocial care to help heal trauma and help restore a sense of normalcy for children
  • Warm clothing and essential supplies to protect families through harsh winters
  • Cash assistance to help families meet urgent needs
  • Repair and rehabilitation of water and sanitation networks to ensure access to water
