Needs are growing


Today more children are in need of humanitarian assistance than at any other time since World War II

The number of weather, climate and water-related disasters has increased by a factor of five over the past 50 years. Approximately 1 billion children, nearly half the world's children, live in countries considered to be high-risk due to extreme climate events.
Yet, children’s chance to survive and thrive in life depends entirely on the nurturing care that they receive in the first 1,000 days of life; the learning and education they receive; and the healthy and safe environment they live in.

UNICEF is there, every step of the way, from childhood to adolescence, to ensure that children living in the most difficult conditions can receive the support they need to survive, thrive, and develop to their full potential.

How your support helps children

  • $1 can provide safe water to 1 child for more than 2 months
  • $2 can provide 6 bars of soap to health centers and medical facilities, where regular handwashing is vital to preventing cross-contamination.
  • $5 can provide safe water to 1 child for 1 year. 
  • $10 can provide safe water for two children for a year
  • $20 can provide $100 bars of soap to ensure children can keep their hands clean when they are at school and visiting UNICEF Child-Friendly spaces 
  • $38 can provide 10,000 water purification tablets to families in emergencies. These tablets can purify at least 40,000 liters of water, protecting children and families from waterborne illnesses. 
  • $55 can provide a monthlong supply of hygiene essentials to a family of five displaced by an emergency. 
  • $100 can provide a family of five essential supplies for a month during times of an emergency.
