Children, separated from their families, are at immense risk of kidnapping and recruitment by armed groups

In the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), escalating violence has displaced over 658,000 people in just three months, including 282,000 children at risk, contributing to a wider crisis where more than 3 million children urgently need help. Families are fleeing conflict, living in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions where diseases like cholera and measles spread rapidly.

Your support can mean the difference between life and death in DRC

Children are hungry, families are losing their homes, water is at risk of contamination, hospitals are full beyond capacity, and lives are at risk. The crisis is getting worse, and vulnerable children and their families can’t wait any longer.

UNICEF Eastern DRC Appeal - 2025 - Donate now to save lives

Merveille, 17, collects water from a lake in her neighborhood in Goma, North Kivu province, DRC, on 4 February 2025.

The recent violence in Goma has made water access a major challenge, forcing families to rely on unsafe sources, increasing disease risks. In response, UNICEF and partners set up 30+ water chlorination points to protect the population.

During the clashes at the end of January, a bullet pierced the roof and hit Faraja’s incubator. The bullet grazed part of his ear, but thanks to the doctors' intervention, he survived and continues to receive medical care. "There were two babies in the incubator, but the bullet hit my child. My child is still receiving care, but I’m afraid this could happen again. We need peace", says Amani.

Every day, innocent children and their families are caught in the middle of violence and displacement.
