Since the Sudan conflict erupted in April 2023, and as of 31 March 2025, over 770,000 refugees and almost 150,000 returnees – including over 570,000 children – have fled atrocities into Eastern Chad. This region, already affected by chronic Sahel instability and hosting 400,000 refugees from Darfur since 2003, is overwhelmed.
Be the reason children in Eastern Chad survives this crisis
UNICEF stays for children because of supporters like you. Because when you stay, you’re standing with children in the face of crisis. You’re telling them they aren’t alone, they aren’t forgotten, and that they matter.
Eastern Chad Crisis
Time is running out — children’s lives depend on your action:
Children are hungry, families are losing their homes, and health services are collapsing. In the Sahel region where climate shocks, conflict, and displacement converge, over 500,000 children in Chad face Severe Acute Malnutrition in 2025. Each day, stocks of life-saving nutritional supplies run dangerously low.

UNICEF is on the ground providing life-saving care — from food and clean water to medical help, protection, and education — so children can be safe, healthy, and have a chance to learn and grow again.

Since April 2023, nearly 1 million people — including Sudanese refugees and returning Chadians — have fled to Chad to escape the conflict in Sudan. And the crisis isn’t slowing down. In just the last week of April 2025, around 8,600 more Sudanese refugees arrived in Wadi Fira and Ennedi Est, seeking safety from the escalating violence.
Every day, innocent children and their families are caught in cycles of violence, climate shocks, and forced displacement.
