With the ongoing war, the damages, loss, and devastation continue to affect families and children. At only 6-years old, Denys was inside his house with his mother when the bombs fell in, and the house caught fire. The family managed to escape in time but all their belongings – including clothes, shoes and toys – went up in flames.
"We don't have any warm clothes or money to buy them".
Like millions of other families, Denys’ family was forced to leave their homes and fled in hopes of finding a safe place to stay. They rented an apartment in Bucha and started from scratch but after his father lost his job, they were unable to pay the rent. They had little choice but to return to their destroyed house in Shibene.
Children in Ukraine cannot face this winter alone. Please donate now.
As winter approaches, freezing temperatures threaten the lives of children. Without proper shelter, warm clothes, heating, and other essentials, children are at risk of freezing to death. Help UNICEF provide children and families with winter clothing kits, blankets, cash assistance, and essential items to survive the harsh winter.
UNICEF is working hard to deliver life-saving supplies to help families survive the harsh winter.
UNICEF and partners are working around the clock to scale up life-saving programmes for children and their families.
This includes providing:
- Schools- 1,000 schools with winter clothing distributed to primary school students. Heaters and fuel to be prepositioned in 1,000 schools enabling a rapid response.
- Alternative care – Winter clothing will be provided to 10,000 children who returned from residential care facilities back to vulnerable families and those living in alternative care facilities. Unconditional cash support will be provided to 100 centers and alternative care facilities.
- Hospitals – Fuel, generators, heating pumps and heaters, individual heating systems, individual kits and warmers, and winter kits to 20 hospitals, reaching an estimated 80,000 children.
- Children on the move – 50,000 children on the move with winter clothing.
- Cash for families - Cash assistance to an additional 30,000 vulnerable households, providing a lifeline for children and their families during the challenging winter months.
With your donations, UNICEF will be able to reach more children with essential supplies and support to make sure they stay warm and safe this winter. But we need your help.
