Every child possesses an innate curiosity to learn about the world around them, but they look to us to guide them in their journey of discovery. You can become part of this journey for many vulnerable children in South Africa and change their story.
Over the last 8 months, these children have been further compromised and are at risk of being left behind.
As you know, the school closures in 2020 have severely impacted South African children's basic right to education:
COVID-19 restrictions have exposed systemic problems across the education landscape, which further compromise the long term future of our country.
Access to a quality education should be universal. This has been discussed in homes and boardrooms across the world and yet, despite progress, there is still quite a way to go for children in SA. With limited access to the internet and quality learning materials, school closures have hit the most vulnerable children hardest.
Words - written or spoken - have the power to motivate, persuade, break down or build up. Words offer promise and connection - taking us on adventures, helping us cross thresholds, and inviting us to break down barriers.
Have you ever wondered how the children in your life dream about a better future for all? We encourage you to have a conversation with them and ask them to write their thoughts down in a poem titled: ‘Imagine a Better World’
#WRITE4CHANGE gives children a voice to play a role in taking our country forward. UNICEF SA will select 12 of the poems submitted through #WRITE4CHANGE and feature them in our 2021 calendar which will be sent to every donor from this campaign.
“One child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world.” - Malala Yousafzai
Empowering future generations begins with happy and healthy children. This journey relies on every child having access to quality health care, good nutrition, education, and growing up in a safe environment, free from violence.
“Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.”
-Desmond Tutu
